| An Introduction to The 6 Core Needs |

Have you noticed that when you go away, you take yourself with you? There's an emotional side to absolutely everything we do. A huge part of the reason that we do this, is that our behaviour is a vehicle to meet our needs. Our behaviour naturally attempts to find happiness and fulfillment, and is driven by 6 core needs. These needs describe why we do what we do, and how come we don't do what we know would be for our highest good (ouch!) These needs can be met and expressed resourcefully or unresourcefully. In other words, we behave in ways that serve our good or alternatively, in ways that if we were in a true place of connection with our higher selves – we would prefer not to be experiencing, or putting ourselves through. Unresourceful behaviour, such as meeting needs by comfort eating or turning to alcohol, or shopping to fill the emptiness inside meets core needs. If we can identify our top drivers, our top core needs, and become aware of how we are functioning in terms of these top drivers, then we can gain control and choice. This ensures we can meet our core needs and express them in ways that are aligned with wellbeing. People often meet their needs by having a problem outside of themselves. If a challenges sits squarely outside of me, it can't be my responsibility, can it? Hmmm. Well, actually, the truth here is ..... If I take responsibility and move to cause rather than sit in the place of the victim (at effect) I can take the reigns of my life. Baby, I can drive my car! Most people get comfortable. This means that they have no motivation to change. That's how come it's often when life hits hard and we're forced to front up and deal, the biggest inner shifts occur. Tony Robbins had an epiphany in the shower one day. (Isn't that where all sublime thinking is done?) He realised that we do everything for 6 reasons. 1. Certainty
2. Variety
3. Significance
4. Connectedness
5. Growth
6. Contribution
These needs don't occur in this order for everyone. In fact the core drives we have prioretise uniquely to each individual. The first four of these needs determine our personality! The top two needs are incredibly significant and drive the choices we make and how we react and interact with the world. Hot Tip: When you're approaching a situation ask yourself: 1. What do I choose to focus on
2. What is the meaning I wish to give this
3. Is this an opening or a closing, a beginning or an end
4. What action do I need to take to achieve my objective(s)
